Bald Head Island Club is a unique golf destination that is located on one of North Carolina’s most beautiful barrier islands. The only way to get to this George Cobb design is by passenger ferry or private boat. Actually the ferry ride to the island is somewhat calming in itself and sets the stage for a good day away from the office.
The golf course is a stunning layout that has been carved out of a maritime forest, amid wind shaped trees and sand dunes in the midst of the Atlantic Ocean. Scenic holes wind their way around saltwater marshes and tidal creeks, while a variety of freshwater lagoons taunt and challenge golfers at nearly every turn.
Pay close attention to wind conditions, if the wind blows off the ocean it will play an important role in your round and careful club selection is absolutely critical. Several tee boxes have been built atop huge sand dunes, creating nice elevation changes and magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean, however it also opens you up to the elements.
Although the elements tend to play a big part of your outing, the golf course itself is always in tip top condition and will provide you with an remarkable experience. Bald Head is one of those “must play” courses and I highly recommend that you ask our providers about playing it on your next trip along the Trail.
