Compass Pointe offers golfers a serene and fun round. Elevation changes and natural areas were utilized to challenge players of all levels.
Compass Pointe Golf Course is the newest addition to the Grand Strand. It is located on the Northern end in Leland, NC. The golf course is just minutes from Historic Wilmington and an easy drive to Myrtle Beach. North Carolina native Rick Robbins designed the golf course. He is an internationally recognized designer that worked under Jack Nicklaus and is known for his creative vision and maximization of the land. The layout is unique and enjoyable for golfers of all levels. There are multiple tee boxes including family tees that allow every hole to be played as a par 3. These are perfect for children and beginners alike.
The layout at Compass Pointe has generous fairways and landing areas. However, players will have to negotiate elevation changes that are rare to Coastal golf courses. The elevation changes range from 23 to 75 feet above sea level. Robbins utilized the majority of the natural land while designing the golf course. There are plenty of natural areas and wetlands for players to traverse. The greens are large but are “push up style” that were created using sand from the actual site. The greens also allow for flexible pin placement that can be ready for daily play or tournament play. The course offers natural drainage so it is playable year round. Conservative water usage and protection of natural areas make it environmentally friendly.
Golfers will experience a serene round when they play Compass Pointe. It was built to navigate away from residential areas to ensure privacy for the golfers and residents. The holes veer off in a variety of directions to keep the attention of its players. Compass Pointe may be the new kid on the block but will quickly become a favorite amongst players on the North end. Strategically placed bunkers, natural areas, and elevation changes give it a unique layout that is enjoyable but can also pose a challenge. Add them to your next package to the Grand Strand and take it on for yourself.
